Howard is involved in numerous standards development organizations, some of which include IEEE, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). He has also served as on the IEEE Board of Directors as IEEE Region 4 Director and as IEEE Treasurer. His background includes 20 years of experience with AT&T, 20 years with Motorola Lighting and the Electronics and Controls Division of OSRAM Sylvania, as well as extensive experience in engineering, standards and specification development, manufacturing, and quality. Howard has made numerous presentations on four continents and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the proud recipient of the IEEE Centennial Medal, the IEEE Millennium Medal, the NEMA Kite and Key Award, the CSA Award of Merit, and Eagle Scout.
