Presenter: Dr. James Irvine
Dr. James Irvine is a Reader in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, where he leads the Mobile Communications Group. His recent projects have included secure peer to peer storage on mobile networks, and detecting social networks through mobile phones. He was Academic Coordinator of the ‘Instant Knowledge’ work area on privacy and trust in new personal communication services for the UK Mobile VCE, a consortium of cellular operations and manufactures. His research interests include security and resource management in wireless systems. He obtained his BEng and PhD from Strathclyde University in 1989 and 1994, and has worked in the Mobile Communications Group since 1994. He ran his own company, Modular Controls, from 1989 until its sale in 1997. In addition to over 200 research papers, he is a co-author of two text books and 7 patents.
